Speedy Crush Finlayson

I swore I would never do it...but we got a family pet.  TJ and I finally broke down (truth be told, I was the only one that needed convincing) and let Dominik pick a pet from our local pet store.  He really wanted a rhino beetle...but I had to put my foot down.  We all agreed on a baby turtle, picked out some tank accessories, and selected the perfect turtle. Dominik couldn't decide between the names "Speedy," and "Crush," so we decided to name him Speedy Crush Finlayson.  This little guy has actually proven to be quite speedy, as he scared easily and moves lightning fast from the top of his Shell to down below it at any hit of movement in the kitchen.  He has quickly become quite the addition to our family and Dominik has surpassed all expectations in his willingness to care for Speedy.  Definitely a good decision for our family!!

My Ideal Day

Days like yesterday are days that make me sad I only have a year left on this island.  Our family has been pretty good about getting out and exploring, but I still am finding myself discovering little gems of places here that I wish so bad I would have known about all along.

For this day in particular we joined up with Taryn, Rowan, and Boden and headed down to Naval Kadena which is a local kiddie swimming pool about 30 minutes from our house.  To pool is only for kids and was only about chest deep for Parker at the deepest point; still the perfect depth for Dominik to enjoy too!  There were several slides ranging from big kid, to a slide that Parker could man himself.  Every hour there was a 10 minute break that we took advantage of to rehydrate, go potty, and grab a snack; perfect timing!  The Japanese tend to have looser standards on rules than the Americans so Dominik and Rowan were able to go down the slide together, and I was even able to go down with Dominik and Parker.

After two hours we were all ready for lunch, so we hoped in the car and drove the 1/4 of a mile to McDonalds for some delicious cheeseburgers.  I so love that place!!  Even in Japan the food is so nostalgic!

By the time the days festivities were done both boys came home and crashed.  I had two hours to myself of uninterrupted me time!!!  If I had to plan my ideal day it would definitely look something like this; SO. Much. Fun!!!

Ta-Ta Till Later

Saying goodbye is the hardest thing to do...despite knowing that we will see Grandma in 6 weeks, saying goodbye is still so sad!!  When you have the greatest grandma/mom in the world it's only natural that seeing her walk towards the airplane would be quite the tear jerker.  She spent 5 wonderful weeks with us and it still wasn't enough!  Dominik even said "I would give up my toy room if it meant that grandma could live with us."

We sure do love her...and grandpa too!  So glad that they were able to come and visit and explore this little island that we call home!!

Grandma got stung by a jellyfish!! Such a trooper!

The Benefits of Being 30

I have to say that I am one spoiled girl.  In addition to a week long Tokyo trip where we were able to summit Mt. Fuji I also had a "birth-weekend" and able to celebrate with family and friends.  Even with Typhoon Goni who came for the party and forced us all to stay indoors for the majority of the day, my family still managed to make sure we celebrated in style with 30 awesome activities!!
