Watching the Whales

Anyone who knows me, knows that I have an aversion to water.  Not just open water, but water of any kind...oceans, rivers, lakes, even sprinklers.  I just don't like being wet. So you can imagine TJs surprise when I told him I had gotten tickets to go whale watching with the Georges, Kings, and the Smiths.  However, whale watching is something I have always wanted to do and therefore, fears aside, we were going!!

The forecast of the day was drizzly and cloudy, but not too chilly.  The overcast of clouds made for a nice day, and despite the bouts of rain that came down, the day was quite perfect.  Granted the water was pretty rough, the Dramamine, Zofran, and Scopolamine patch I used seemed to keep everything down.  Such a blessing!!

The whales were out and we were stoked! We trailed a mama whale and her little baby for a few hours and the baby was quite the little show off.  He jumped out of the water a few times, and even poked his head out to say a quick hello.  The mama humpback waved her tail at us a few times, but really only came out of the water for air.

We all had so much fun and were so excited to not only see the whales, but experience it with our friends!  Definitely something I'm glad I did once!!!

Valentines Day

This year for Valentines Day we started a new tradition!  I love celebrating Valentines Day with TJ, but I also love celebrating it with my kids. This is the holiday I like to celebrate the loves in my life, so why not have multiple celebrations with all those that I love?!?!

So, since V-day fell on a Saturday this year TJ and I decided to go on a fun date on Friday night, and then celebrate with the boys on Saturday night.  TJ and I went to our favorite restaurant all by ourselves and ate ourselves into yaki-niku submission.  The night was fun to just be together, visit, and eat...three of my absolute most favorite things!

Saturday night consisted of more food (the literal translation of holiday for me is food), being heart shaped pizzas, strawberry crush soda, and some of our family Zebra popcorn (carmel corn drizzled with white and dark chocolate).  We all exchanged valentines gifts and told each other why we love one another.  After dinner we were invited to a neighbors house to watch Big Hero 6 on their projector, and eat some more goodies.

We are so blessed to have so much love in our lives!  I love celebrating these little holidays that really make me appreciate all the blessings I have been given in my life!!

My V-day gift was an afternoon of shopping and then out to lunch at Shabu-Shabu with my love!!

A Wild One

A child's first birthday is not only celebrating the child's first birthday, but also the parents surviving a full year of having a child.  So, while the child might not fully understand the full implications of a birthday party, the parents (emphasis on the mom) knows...thus the party must be celebrated...and celebrated to the max!!  After all, surviving a full year is quite the feat!!

So, celebrate we did!  The theme was Where the Wild Things Are the children's book by Maurice Sendak and one of my personal favorites to read to my littles!  The party commenced on a Saturday afternoon and Parker was surrounded by all his little buddies.  We were sad to not have our family in attendance, but are so grateful for our friends (might as well be family) who joined us for the occasion.

The cake smash was definitely the highlight of the afternoon for Parker.  If you know anything about Parker you know that he likes to eat...so it should come as no surprise that he thoroughly enjoyed eating a 4" cake all by himself.  My dear friend Hailey helped me make the beautiful cake and I am so pleased with how it turned out!!

The rest of the party was opening presents and watching the kids fight over the same toy.  For his birthday Parker got a swing (from us), a car (from Grandma and Grandpa Papenfuss), and some great toys and clothes from his friends.  We all had such a great time and are so grateful to had the opportunity to celebrate our beautiful little boy!!
