Crafty Days

So lately I have been incredibly into cooking!  I love cooking...and TJ loves eating, so really it's the perfect combination.  I started a blog to track my family's favorite recipes and in the end I am going to publish the blog and have a cook book; I'm so excited!  On top of my delicious dinners I also decided to start baking cakes :)  Nothing fancy, I just really like to do crafts...and when I can eat the "crafts" it seems like the best of both worlds!  Below are some of my baking/craft creations.
I made the above cupcakes for Dominik's first birthday party.  The baseball cupcakes are vanilla cupcakes with raspberry filling and cream cheese frosting.  The football cupcakes are chocolate cupcakes with Bavarian cream filling and chocolate icing.  The basketball cupcakes are spice cupcakes with cream cheese filling and cream cheese frosting.  They turned out really cute and Dominik LOVED them which mattered the most to me!
I made this cake for my little Ava (she's my best friends cute little two year old).  She loves Toy Story so I wanted to make her a Toy Story cake.  Every time we are at a store and she sees anything with Toy Story pictures on it she always gets really excited and yells "Voody."  We showed up to Chuck'E'Cheeses with this cake and every single person that walked by asked where we got it.  When we told them that I made it they smiled and said it looked great...I'm pretty sure that no one believed me :)  It was a vanilla cake with raspberry filling and a cool whip cream cheese frosting...topped with M & M's and lined with Kit-Kat's.

I made these cupcakes for my friends baby shower.  They turned out really cute and were super delicious!  They were vanilla cupcakes with raspberry filling and chocolate cupcakes with Bavarian cream filling.  They all had a cream cheese frosting that was super good!
This last cake is my pride and joy!  I made it for my beautiful niece Brooklyn's first birthday and it turned out great for my first fondant cake ever!  It was a sour cream vanilla cake with vanilla pudding and raspberry filling, whipped butter cream frosting, and delicious fondant.  I also handmade the cute tutu around the outside...nothing but the best for my niece!  It took FOREVER to make, but I was proud of myself when I looked at the end result!  My mom helped me with the fondant and I couldn't have done it without her, so I would like to take a second to give her a shout-out and say thank you :)
This little girls expression made the hours of work totally worth it!  I sure love this lil' girl!

Happy Mom's Day!

First and foremost I would like to express the love I have for my amazing Mom!  She is my best friend and has never shown me anything but unconditional love.  If I am half the mother she is I will consider myself lucky!  She has been with me through thick and thin and I can't imagine my life without her!!!!!  I love you Mom!

Greatest mom EVER!!!

Man I love this little boy!!!!
This year for Mother's day I actually feel like a real mom :)  Last year Dominik was only a month old and I was far too exhausted to enjoy being a mother.  With that said, TJ still made last year's mothers day awesome, so this year I actually got to enjoy it!  TJ woke up early with Dominik so I got to sleep in an extra hour, and he made me breakfast in bed!  It was a sausage egg McMuffin that McDonald's ain't got nothin on :)  It was super delicious and the best part was that I didn't have to make it.

Since it was mothers day we decided to go to my parents ward and hang out with my mom so she didn't have to sit all alone (my dad is the bishop).  Dominik loved sitting by Grandma, and it was wonderful having her love on him during the meeting so TJ and I actually got to listen to the speakers :)  For Relief Society there was a short lesson and then they handed out warm pie and ice cream.  It completely solidified my happiness in the decision to go to my parents ward!

After church we headed over to my parents house and received a very important phone call from Argentina...that's right...from Elder Curtis!  It was great to hear his voice and be able to share in his awesome experiences.  He is such a great missionary and I love being able to feed off his eccentric energy!

After talking to Curtis we enjoyed a DELICIOUS dinner.  Grilled chicken and veggies, salad, foccocia bread, and a white chocolate truffle cheesecake for dessert.  Again the best part being that I didn't have to cook.  The boys did such a great job in making the day special.  TJ even got me a Dyson vacuum - with the promise to do all the vacuuming :).  That's a pretty great gift!

I'm so thankful for the opportunity I have been given to be a mother.  I can't imagine life without my little Dominik and I feel so blessed that Heavenly Father sent him to me.  He is such a perfect little person with an amazing spirit.  I definitely now understand the scripture where King Benjamin tells his people to put off the natural man and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things.  Dominik is such a great example to me of all these things and I hope and pray that I can be more like him!  I can't imagine a greater calling in life that that of motherhood!

Lions, and Tigers, and Bears...oh my!

Dominik and I were invited to go to the zoo today, and figured it would be rude to say no!  What a GREAT day it turned out to be!  72 degrees and not a cloud in the sky, all the animals were out, and Dominik was in a great mood even though we had to forgo his afternoon nap.  Luckily Katie brought sunscreen!  I put it all over Dominik and he was fine being in the sun; I however was not so lucky.  I am currently a tomato lathering up on the aloe vera.  Next time I need to remember to bring the sunscreen!

The kids were locked and loaded...ready to hit the zoo!
When we first arrived it was lunch time so we headed straight for the amphitheatre where they had a huge grass field.  Dominik partook of his first peanut butter and jelly sandwich and absolutely loved it!  He walked (using my fingers for support) all over the grass and loved the way it felt in between his toes.

This apple was passed around from kid to kid the entire time at the zoo...pretty gross, but it kept them happy :)
After lunch we headed out to see the elephants.  The kids loved seeing the elephants do their exercises and couldn't get enough of hitting the glass in an attempt to get the elephants attention.

Once we saw the elephants we headed to Africa to see the predators of Serengeti.  We also ventured out to see the Zebra, Deer, Giraffe, some strange peacock looking animals, and scary bats (Ava kept screaming inside the exhibit...I'm pretty sure it was more for effect than because she was scared).  Dominik loved being in the wagon, and kept wanting to walk.  Unfortunately walking for him kills my back from having to support him, so we had to limit it.

Dominik wore a Giraffe t-shirt that says "who you calling short?" in honor of our zoo trip.
